18th anniversary mini album (day 14)

Instead of a card, I made this mini album for my hubby…today we celebrate our 18th anniversary!
Above left, are our senior pictures…1988/1989.

The right page is a picture of us at my senior banquet.  I went to a Christian high school, so we didn’t have prom…

Below, right are 2 pictures from when we were dating…

Above is a picture of us on our 1st anniversary, (1993).  We went to Red Lobster and then to see the movie “Matinee”…remember that movie??

Below is the actual computer-printed card that I gave to him on our 1st anniversary…I swiped it out of an old album that I had made.  Remember those awful albums where you pulled the clear cover up and stuck the picture to the sticky page?  I have many of those from the “early years” of my scrapbooking.

Below left is a picture from our 1 month anniversary.

Below right is a picture of us from our 1st Easter, as a married couple….matching shirts!  yikes!

Above are 2 pictures of me when I was pregnant.  (1993/1994)
These few pictures were some of us over the last few years.

I used my vintage typewriter for the journaling.  Some of the embellishments were cut on my Cricut Expression, (like this “kiss me”).

(Side note:  I tried to learn how to crochet these flowers–seen above–over the weekend, and failed miserably!  Guess I will keep buying them at my LSS.)
I love to give mini albums instead of cards.

Although I do enjoy making/giving cards, I really enjoy making mini albums as gifts.  Minis are so fun & the options are endless!

The “hubs” took the day off to spend alone with me.  I love that.  I love having him beside me as we carry on the tasks of the day.  We ate lunch out, at our favorite Olive Garden….although, it wasn’t our typical good meal.  It was freeeeezing in there.  A blower directly above our table.  Ate most of my lunch with my winter coat on.  (Bonus, my sister gave us at $25 gift card to O.G. for our anniversary!!!)  We were cold, but the food was yummy.

We also made a trip to Starbucks…had a GC from there too, leftover from Christmas from my son…so we got to enjoy our favorite drinks…thanks Nick!

Other than that, we did a little of this & a little of that.

So far it’s been a good day!

The 2 of us.

This evening we will spend as a family.  Maybe do something fun for dinner.  Just enjoy being together.

Happy Anniversary, honey!  I love you!

those adorable feety pajamas

i found this picture from 1996.

nick was about 2 1/2 then.

i just loved those feety pajamas.  he was so snuggly in them.

time goes too fast.

of course i used some more THICKERS on my layout.

for the sunday scrappin challenge: use something 3-D in a layout.

i used the leaves and added a red button to resemble a holly berry.

my to-do’s:

  • i have a gift i want to bake, using an altered oatmeal container as the gift holder.
  • i played with my binditall yesterday…working on a mini album for this summer…need to work on the cover…want to have it ready for the last day of school and the first day of summer break.

my ta-da’s:

  • this layout is my only layout for the last few days.
  • however, i did clean up my scrap-room last night.  i can see the floor!

it was a bit chilly out today, but i managed to finish planting my mini-garden and planted many flowers around the house.  i always plant red flowers, to match our front door.  but today, everywhere i looked i saw beautiful purple flowers.  they were just begging to be planted at our house.  so, i went with different shades of deep purple and white.  hopefully they bloom & look beautiful!

well, i better keep moving….laundry….ironing…treadmill…dishes….all of it is waiting for me!  enjoy your sunday!

treasured eggs

these are some of the beautiful eggs that my grandmother was known for making.

she always had a craft space somewhere in her house.  a table full of embellishments that she would use for her eggs.

the eggs are real, blown out, dyed and embellished.

some of these date back to my birth in 1970, my wedding in 1992, my son’s birth, another one for me in 1974, even one with a picture of a cute white puppy that she had made when we got our dog, chewy.

grandma would hand cut tiny little flowers or pictures off of greeting cards, magazine pages, or anywhere that she would see inspiration for an egg.  many of her friends or church-acquaintances would receive an egg from grandma, that had been personally made with them in mind.

she was a truly crafty gal!  i miss her greatly!  i think from one crafty chic to another, she would have enjoyed my scrapbooks.  she did get to see some in my early days, but not since scrapbooking has grown into such a hobby!

remember these?

just been sitting here flashing back to being a child in the 70’s & 80’s…..see if you remember these….
i soooo loved donny & marie! remember there was even a show?!?!  i even had the microphone that would transmit through a radio channel….just like being a star!

how about this:

a holly hobby oven!  i just knew i was a chef at heart!  the amazing cakes that could be made just by the heat of a lightbulb!  yikes!!
now, no matter how hot my feet were….or how disgustingly sweaty my shoes were, i just knew i was “all that” in these shoes.  and what about the “Jelly Jackets” ???  were those TORTURE or what????   they were like a sweaty weight loss jacket….oooooh, remember how they would even steam up???? they would!!!!  oh yuck!!!!
ok, now admit it.  if you were a preteen girl in the late 70’s early 80’s, you read “Are You There God, It’s Me, Margaret”….AND you indeed chanted “we must. we must. we must increase our busts.”    (guess i should have chanted it a few more times)…
ok. how about lip gloss??  whether it was these little tins, or the HUGE chapsticks that were available in all different flavors, or the roll-on, ooey gooey gloss….whichever one was your favorite, your lips were definitely glossed up!
ok. so this last choice shows my nerdy side.  yes, i had a “little professor”.  if i remember right, it even had a strap that came out of his hat, which you could wear around your wrist, so you don’t dare drop your professor.

ok.  so you’re either bored out of your mind, or you stopped ready a long time ago, or you are now travelling down your own memory lane.  enjoy.

happy 14th nick!

this is my absolute favorite picture of nick.   such a cutie pie.   my baby is 14 today.  he is developing into quite the young man.  happy birthday, nick!  we love you!!  God has blessed our family with you & we are thankful for your life.

  • Dear God,  “Let Nick dwell in the shelter of the Most High and rest in the shadow of the Almighty.  Be his refuge, his fortress, his covering, his shield. Do not let him fear the terror of the night, nor any type of plague or sickness.  Do not let any harm or disaster come near Nick.  Command your angels to guard him in all his ways and keep him from hurting himself.  When he calls on you, answer him.  Be with hiim in trouble; deliver him and honor him.  Satisfy Nick with long life and show him your salvation.”  Amen    (Psalm 91)

rainy days & scrappin

yucky rainy day today, so we stayed home and i found time to scrap a little.  i had bought this paper group and some of the embellishments a few weeks ago.  as soon as i saw it, it reminded me of my grandmother.  i’ve been wanting to scrap a page about her, so i thought i would start with this.  i also had bought this clear acrylic sleeve that you can place a 12 x 12 page in, and add ribbon or whatever to hang it.

the color theme matches my scrap room, so i hung it there.

the picture is of my great-grandmother, my mom, and my grandmother….the year was probably 1951…  my grandmother was a very creative lady.  (i think that we were a lot alike…i’m guessing my creativity came from her).
one thing that she did was decorate blown-out eggshells.  she always had many tiny embellishments to use.  she passed on many years ago, but i used some of her items for this page.

the bow, the doily flower, and the pearl flowers were all from her stash.

i thought that the page needed balance, so i added some buttons.  my great-grandmother always had a huge drawer full of buttons in her sewing machine table….so the buttons make me think of her.  this is a great 3-generation picture and i’m quite happy with how the layout turned out.

guess the rainy day wasn’t so bad after all!

recent reminder

i was reminded recently of how God has been working in the lives of our family.  sometimes, we get so caught up in the day-to-day battles and current needs & requests, that we forget where we have come from.  we forget the answered prayers.  we forget that God has been more than faithful in our lives.

our recent reminder came in the form of journals.

our son, Nick, (now almost 14), has asthma & allergies, (including a severe peanut allergy).

Nick was diagnosed around 1 year of age, after a scary trip to the ER.  in the days, weeks, months, years that followed, we kept journals of his medicine doses.  (this may sound crazy, but when medicines/times/doses start to blend in to one another, it is a great way to keep track of what’s going on).

journal after journal, we kept track.  some days only contain one or two entries.  other days, the medicines seemed to never end.

some of the days, (and especially nights), seemed to go on forever.  the sound of your child restless, coughing, wheezing, struggling to take catch his breath.  those nights, we found ourselves crying out to God.  pleading with Him to heal our son, to give this struggle to us, his parents, not him.

yet, that’s not what God chose to do.  God heard our cry.  He chose to answer our prayers simply by carrying us through them.

no.  he didn’t completely heal our son.  he still has asthma & allergies.  yes, he had to endure months of allergy shots, allergy tests, daily medicine, but our God traveled these roads with us…and He continues to walk with us today.  things are much better today.  nick’s body is strong.  there are many worse things that people deal with and through this God has never left us.

no one can fully understand why God chooses to do certain things in our lives, but we trust that God knows what is best.

these are some verses that i claimed during this time.  favorite verses that still bring me comfort.

  • James 1:2-5  “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.  Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.  If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”
  • I Peter 5:10  “And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you & make you strong, firm & steadfast.”
  • Isaiah 43:1-2 “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.  When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.  When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”

16 years married: {wedding: part 2}

wow.  16 years ago today, i was 21 (almost 22), and getting married to my high school sweetheart.  (not only high school, we actually “went out” in 6th grade too).  he has been my friend since i was about 5 years old.  he has been a true friend and blessing, for as long as i have known him.  he is a man of integrity.  he knows what he believes and stands up for it.  he loves with a faithfulness and a heart of gold that can only be given by God.  he thinks not of himself, but what’s best for us and our family.  he has stood by me through good times and bad.  he is a man of God with a sensitive spirit.  i love him and know that he is blessing sent to me by God and i thank God for him.   in today’s world, when marriages are ending and couples are abandoning their vows, we stand together, still.  i am very thankful that God is at the center of our marriage and can help us weather the storms together.
“Love” by Petra  (sung at our wedding)love is patient, love is kind
no eyes of envy, true love is blind
love is humble, it knows no pride
no selfish motive hidden inside
love is gentle, makes no demands
despite all wrong, true live still stands
love is holy, love is pure
it lasts forever, it will endure

love knows when to let go
love knows when to say no
love grows in the light of the Son
and love shows the world that the Son of Love has come
love is loyal, believes the best
it loves the truth, love stands the test
love is God sent in His Son
love forgives all we have done
in this world where hatred seems to grow
true love goes against the flow
and becomes so hard to show
in this world where push turns to shove
we have strength to rise above
through the power of His love
Lord, we need to know the power of Your love

16 years married: {dating: part 1}

tomorrow, (february 1), is my 16th wedding anniversary.  just wanted to take a few minutes and flashback over the years.  we dated for 5 years prior to getting married.  that makes 21 years together….i am 37, so basically i hardly remember life “before kevin”.  when we were dating, our song was “Lady in Red”.  when i hear it my heart still does a little flip-flop.  here’s a picture of us at my “senior banquet”.  the year was 1988.  i attended a Christian school, so this was our version of prom, minus the dancing.  dig my big hair and his big glasses. ha  Happy Early Anniversary, hun! (forgive me for posting the pic!!!)
