{autumn greetings} color challenge

i scrapped this layout for a color challenge over on sistv. i never realized that you can put this widget into your blog and view the layouts!  very cool!

with yesterday being the first day of autumn, i chose the fall color swatch for this challenge.

the picture is actually a postcard that i got at our church garage sale.

on this layout, i also tried using my sewing machine to stitch on paper.  a long time ago, i owned a mini sewing machine specifically for paper, and it was awful.  i hated using it.  so, i’ve been nervous about trying my regular machine.  but, i think you will see stitching on a lot more of my layouts! it was a lot of fun!

i also tried another fun & easy technique that i saw in a magazine recently.  the chipboard arrow was a dingy color of brown, so i wrapped it with bright yellow thread to add more color and texture!  too easy!!

all of this was stuff i had on hand.  i’ve been trying to use more of my stash….

i hope you are enjoying the first bits of fall.

the women’s Bible study that i attend started today.  it was so good to see some faces that i haven’t seen since spring.  very excited to study God’s Word with these ladies!

real life

this is a layout that i did for the challenge over on OLW.  the word this week is: REAL.

the journaling reads: “sometimes being a REAL stay @ home mom is less about eating bon bons and more about trips to the doctor’s office & smiling though you’re exhausted…this is REAL LIFE!!!”

i’ve been missing in action the last few days because nick’s been really sick.

fever around 103′, breathing treatments around the clock, aches, pains, vomitting, sore throat… name it, he has it.

finally did get an apt. at the doctor, (picture above)…the doctor prescribed an antibiotic and said if things don’t improve, he will need chest x-rays on monday to make sure it’s not pneumonia.  finally his fever broke last night….thank you God….he’s showing some improvement….so i grabbed a few minutes for myself and scrapped this.

you can also see it here

…off to spinning class!….

happy thursday!!!

refocus & renew

i’ve been thinking a lot about something that ali edwards mentioned in her blog.

choosing a word for 2009.

a word that sums up what you want for yourself this coming year.

i thought this would be easy.  i thought a word would just jump out at me.

but it didn’t.  i’ve been thinking about it…looking up words…scriptures etc….

i finally narrowed it down to two.

refocus & renew

2008 was a year that i really focused on getting healthy.  losing weight.  exercising.  making healthy eating choices.

but one thing that always got pushed to the bottom of my to-do list, was my quiet time wtih God.

in 2009, i would like to refocus my energy and renewing my relationship with Christ.

daily making the choice to create time to spend alone with him.

of course these words can also be applied to other areas of my life also, but i really want my main focus to be on Him.  knowing that, when we put our eyes on Christ, everything else should fall into place.

  • Psalm 51:10  “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”
  • Romans 12:2  “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
  • Isaiah 40:31  “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

in order to encourage this change, i have found a few challenges that i am going to do.

His Holy Name Challenge 2009

Scripture Challenge 2009 (these 2 are done through}

LPM Scripture Memory Challenge 2009  (this is livingproofministries, which is beth moore, a fantastic Bible-study leader)

think about it.

it’s more than just a resolution.

what will be your focul point this year??

pay-it-forward challenge

i read about a great crafty challenge for bloggers over on katrina’s blog.  sounds like a great way to pass along a little kindness.  here’s your chance to ‘pay-it-forward’!!! who wants to play along????here’s how you play.

  • be the first 3 bloggers to leave a comment on this post, which then entitles you to a handmade item from me!!!
  • be willing to post this challenge on your blog, (meaning, that you will then ‘pay-it-forward’, creating a handmade gift for the first 3 bloggers that leave a comment on YOUR blog!!)

as far as i can tell, the gift can be any price range and you have 365 days to make/ship your item.

which means, you should be willing to maintain your blog at least until you receive your gift and have shipped your gifts.

you can read about it here and here also!

are you up for the challenge???

12:02:43 on Wednesday

I have my 3 comments!  Stop by their blogs and play along there!  Thanks!!
