rain

Rain
by Shel Silverstein

I opened my eyes
And looked up at the rain,
And it dripped in my head
And flowed into my brain,
And all that I hear as I lie in my bed
Is the slishity-slosh of the rain in my head.

I step very softly,
I walk very slow,
I can’t do a handstand–
I might overflow,
So pardon the wild crazy thing I just said–
I’m just not the same since there’s rain in my head.

finally, it’s not raining today.  seems like this summer has been full of rain…(did i mention i am NOT a fan of rain?  it depresses me.  makes me want to sit on the couch, wrapped in a blanket and veg out….) yuck.  anyways, came across this short, funny poem about rain.  thought i would post it.  maybe you’ve heard it before.

hope you have a happy & rain-free day!

from a sweet friend

had lunch with my sweet friend, lisa, tuesday.   God has richly blessed my life by having her as a friend.

she surprised me and bought me this beautiful tiled starbucks mug and delicious starbucks caramels.

she made this beautiful card for me, in my favorite coffee-theme.
after lunch, we did some shopping and i found this little easel.    seems like i sometimes have a birthday card or anniversary card to display and nowhere to put it.

looks like i found a great way to display cards…whatta great find!!  not to mention it was clearanced for only $2!

i think i will use it to display her card where i can see it and it will remind me of the blessing of friendship.

  • Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls for he has no one to help him up.

“A cup of coffee shared with a friend is happiness tasted and time well spent.”

love chocolate? try this

bought this book a year or two ago and thought i would go through it again.

“Rich Encouragement to Sweeten Your Day: Faith-Dipped Chocolate”  by Louise Bergmann DuMont

each chapter is a quick devotional.  nothing too deep, but just quick reminders of what’s important.

here’s a verse that i needed reminded of:

  • “Now concerning love of the brothers and sisters, you do not need to have anyone write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love one another; and indeed you do…But we urge you, beloved, to do so more and more, to aspire to live quietly, to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we directed you, so that you may behave properly toward outsiders.”   I Thessalonians 4:9-12

  • the book also includes Fun Facts, such as:  “The white film that appears on chocolate after exposure to different temperatures won’t affect the taste or the quality of the chocolate.”  here’s another Fun Fact:  Chocolate syrup was used for blood in the famous forty-five-second shower scene in Alfred Hitchcock’s black-and-white thriller Psycho.  The scene actually took seven days to shoot.”

  • also includes Cocoa Quotes: “There’s nothing better than a good friend, except a good friend with chocolate.”  –Linda Grayson

  • some chapters even include Recipes to Relish.  recipes such as; Viennese Coffee,  Mocha Blast Shake,  Cheater’s Chocolate Sundae  and more!

doubt? or hope?

doubt.

what is it?

why do we doubt so much?

the dictionary defines it as:

  • –verb (used with object)
    1. to be uncertain about; consider questionable or unlikely; hesitate to believe.
    2. to distrust.
    3. Archaic. to fear; be apprehensive about.

    –verb (used without object)

    4. to be uncertain about something; be undecided in opinion or belief.

    –noun

    5. a feeling of uncertainty about the truth, reality, or nature of something.
    6. distrust.
    7. a state of affairs such as to occasion uncertainty.
    8. Obsolete. fear; dread.

what does doubt cost us?

Ralph Waldo Emerson said:  “Our distrust is very expensive.”

did it cost you a relationship?

a close relationship with Christ?

an emptiness in your heart?

years of heartache?

goals not accomplished or even attempted?

low self-esteem?

what can you do about doubt?

counteract your doubt with HOPE.

Where do you place your HOPE?

have HOPE in Christ.

HOPE in your future.

HOPE in a God that loves you and wants the best for you.

step out.

step out and trust Him.

Isaiah 40:31 says “but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Jeremiah 29:11 says “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

endure the rain

Well, i was prepared to blog about not much of anything…maybe the crummy weather.  Why is it that i find rainy, overcast days so depressing?  My husband, on the other hand, loves this weather.  Anyways, i was driving home from the grocery and passed a business sign that made me think twice, so i thought i would pass it on.  It read something like:

“To enjoy the rainbow, you must endure the rain.”rainbow-blog.jpg
