Category: verses i’m memorizing

a pure heart

well, as posted here, i am trying to refocus my attention on my relationship with Christ this year. the verse that i have chosen for this month, (for the LPM scripture memorization challenge) is:

  • ” Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”  Psalm 51:10

i am starting a new devotional, Take A Closer Look For Women and i really enjoy books that are based on praying the scriptures….so i found a new one Praying the Scriptures for Your Teenagers

MY ripple effect

Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men,”

whenever i need a little boost in my devotional time, i pull out my favorite devotional book:  “Women of the Bible”

today i studied Priscilla.  as in Priscilla & her husband Aquila.  (you can check out more by reading Acts 18-19, Romans 16:3-4, 1 Corinthians 16:19, 2 Timothy 4:19)

Priscilla was one of the first missionaries and a leader of the early church.  she was a woman whose spiritual maturity and understanding of the faith helped build up the early church.

some key points that God taught me today, during my devotion time:

  • “All work is valuable and worthwhile in God’s sight, and all work is worth doing ‘with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men….It is the Lord Christ you are serving’ ”  Colossians 3:23-24
  • “Whatever my role as a woman in my church, whether in the background or in a leadership position, i can be sure that what i am doing matters.  Each task–no matter how small or large–is important to the spread of the gospel.  I am an integral part of my church community, and God promises to use me.”
  • “The truth is, most of us have affected others in far more positive ways than we might guess, especially if we belong to Christ.”

“as believers, we should picture our lives as stones thrown into a pond.  our lives are meant to have a RIPPLING EFFECT so others can feel the influence of our gifts and faith.

picture yourself as a stone in God’s hand.

He throws you into the water.

What kind of ripples do you see?  Are they large or small?

Thank God for all the ripples your life has already created, even if the circle of your influence still seems rather small.  Unlike the ripples created by an ordinary stone, the ripple effect of faith need never stop as long as we live.  Pray that God will make waves with your faith, even rocking a few boats along the way.”

verses to memorize

  • “Until now you have not asked for anything in my name.  Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.”  John 16:24
  • “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”  Matthew 6:33
  • “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man.  And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.  But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.”  1 Corinthians 10:13
  • “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”  Romans 8:28

hiding God’s word in my heart

ok.  well, between leading a youth small group and now attending a women’s Bible study, i am really working on verse memorization.  not my strong-point, but something that i know i need to do.  so, i thought if i posted it in my blog, maybe that would encourage others to ‘hide God’s word in YOUR heart’ also.

here we go.

1 John 5:13  “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.”

Psalm 119:11  “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”

Proverbs 1:7  “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.”
