i don’t know what it is, but every year when the cold weather blows in, it blows me right into the kitchen.  something about baking up some warm sweets on a cold afternoon…i just love it.  my friend, lisa, gave me this beautiful dish last week. (thanks lisa!!!!)  it is so pretty and was just shouting for something sweet to be baked in it!  so, of course, i did.

i used an old favorite recipe for microwave apple crisp, increasing it slightly because the dish is so deep.

in the mood for some warm tasty sweets?  put on the coffee pot and try this out.  it will warm your insides for sure!!!

 Microwave Apple Crisp

4-6 large Granny Smith apples (**9 for large dish)

8 graham cracker squares (**1 plastic wrapped package)

3/4 cup packed brown sugar (**1 cup)

1/2 cup rolled oats (**3/4 cup)

1/2 cup flour (**3/4 cup)

1 tsp. cinnamon (**1 1/2 tsp)

1/2 tsp. nutmeg (**3/4 tsp)

1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted (**3/4 cup)

Directions:

  1. Peel, core & slice apples.
  2. Prepare enough apples to fill deep baking dish, 3/4 full.
  3. Finely chop graham crackers.
  4. Combine crumbs, sugar, oats, flour & spices.
  5. Add butter; mix well.
  6. Spoon mixture over apple slices.
  7. Microwave on high 12-15 minutes.  Cook until apples are tender.
  8. Cool slightly, (topping will harden and be crunchy, the cooler it gets.)
  9. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
