beautiful bistro

forgot to post these pictures a few weeks ago.  we went to a beautiful Bistro to celebrate my parents’ anniversary.

this is the ceiling…quite beautiful

this is just a shot from our table looking towards the front of the restaurant.   looks quite sunny at the time.  by the time we finished our meal, it was a rainy-yucky-downpour.
this is just a close-up of part of the front window…
just a shot of our water goblet.
as we were leaving, we realized that the entrance had lights underneath the floor….somehow we missed that on the way in….my toes and nick’s shoes….   that’s all.    just wanted to share the pictures.

it was a beautiful evening, the atmosphere is wonderful and the food was quite tasty.

enjoy your weekend!

wonderful weekend

i had such a wonderful mother’s day weekend, that i wanted to scrap-it first thing this morning.  (the picture is somewhat blurred out….but it is taken by-way-of the rear view mirror…during our road trip saturday).  (the paper, phrase tags, fabric tape and stickers all came from target–couldn’t wait to get them home and use them!)

  • my weekend started out on friday evening…my son came home from school and gave me a card and poem he had written for me….LOVE IT!  (see that post here)

  • saturday morning started out superbly when i stepped onto the scale and had lost another pound!  finally, i reached my first goal of losing 17 lbs.!!!
  • my guys (hubby & son) took me out of town shopping allllll day saturday!  i got to make all of the decisions…where to eat (chili’s & pizza hut), where to shop (especially archivers & target…) 2 stops at starbucks…..need i say more???  it was FANTASTIC!  and the weather was beautiful!!
  • oh, and my hubby, (who spoils me), bought me a beautiful outfit (skirt/shirt/shoes) from Ann Taylor Loft!!! Thanks honey!!!

  • sunday came and we were exhausted, (which unfortunately means we overslept and missed church)…so, i relaxed in my pj’s most of the day….watching I Love Lucy, Little People marathon, Jon & Kate Plus 8 marathon, the First 48…….once again, i got to have my choice of lunch and supper!  and i even had time to scrap & browse blogs!!!
  • oh and did i mention, they got me a Cookie Bouquet from Cookies by Design!  my absolute favorite gift!!!  i gobbled up one cookie (eeks, 400 calories)(extra hard workout on the treadmill made me feel better less guilty) and i still have 2 more cookies to enjoy.

whew!  whatta weekend!  i really appreciate all of the effort that went in to giving this mom a wonderful weekend.  i hope all of you moms had a super mother’s day too. Thanks guys!  love you!

recent reminder

i was reminded recently of how God has been working in the lives of our family.  sometimes, we get so caught up in the day-to-day battles and current needs & requests, that we forget where we have come from.  we forget the answered prayers.  we forget that God has been more than faithful in our lives.

our recent reminder came in the form of journals.

our son, Nick, (now almost 14), has asthma & allergies, (including a severe peanut allergy).

Nick was diagnosed around 1 year of age, after a scary trip to the ER.  in the days, weeks, months, years that followed, we kept journals of his medicine doses.  (this may sound crazy, but when medicines/times/doses start to blend in to one another, it is a great way to keep track of what’s going on).

journal after journal, we kept track.  some days only contain one or two entries.  other days, the medicines seemed to never end.

some of the days, (and especially nights), seemed to go on forever.  the sound of your child restless, coughing, wheezing, struggling to take catch his breath.  those nights, we found ourselves crying out to God.  pleading with Him to heal our son, to give this struggle to us, his parents, not him.

yet, that’s not what God chose to do.  God heard our cry.  He chose to answer our prayers simply by carrying us through them.

no.  he didn’t completely heal our son.  he still has asthma & allergies.  yes, he had to endure months of allergy shots, allergy tests, daily medicine, but our God traveled these roads with us…and He continues to walk with us today.  things are much better today.  nick’s body is strong.  there are many worse things that people deal with and through this God has never left us.

no one can fully understand why God chooses to do certain things in our lives, but we trust that God knows what is best.

these are some verses that i claimed during this time.  favorite verses that still bring me comfort.

  • James 1:2-5  “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.  Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.  If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”
  • I Peter 5:10  “And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you & make you strong, firm & steadfast.”
  • Isaiah 43:1-2 “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.  When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.  When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”

wednesday dinner date

my hubby & i started meeting for wednesday night dinner before church.  my son, (almost 14), goes out to eat with his cousins before youthgroup, so that allows the 2 of us to meet for a quick bite of supper.

our current favorite is picking up starbucks and going to subway for a healthy supper.

…great chance just to catch up with eachother and spend a little time alone, before rushing off to the next thing…

whisper a prayer

  • “Bless and keep ____________, so that she (he) will not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.”  (Psalm 1:1)
  • “Cause ____________ to obey us, for this is right.  Let him (her) honor us, his (her) father and his (her) mother, so that it may go well with him (her) and that he (she) may enjoy a long life on earth.”  (Ephesians 6:1-3)
  • “Let the light of your face shine upon ___________.  Fill his (her) heart with joy, and let him (her) lie down and sleep in peace.”  (Psalm 4:6-8)

just hello

just wanted to say hello.  i’ve been a bad blogger lately.

just been busy with life and enjoying the wonderful taste of summer that we’ve been experiencing.  i love the sun.

nothing too exciting to report.  it’s garage sale weekend in our neighborhood, so that’s kept me busy and that’s where i will be tomorrow.  not shopping.  selling.

new found love at Starbucks;  Iced Skinny Mocha.  in a huge venti, there are only 110 calories.  it’s fabulous!

still eating under 1400 calories a day.  still using  which i highly recommend to anyone trying to keep tabs on their weight.  thrilled that my clothes are too loose after losing weight—been shopping!!!  such a good feeling to have an EXCUSE to buy new clothes!  have gradually increased my work-out, up to 50 minutes on the treadmill, while lifting weights.

have actually spent time in God’s Word each morning.  that’s a good feeling.

looking forward to school being out and opening our pool for the summer.  unfortunately, not for another month or so.

have NOT scrapped in the last few weeks.  hoping to grab some time next week.

well. that’s that. (oh ya.  i wanted to say a quick “hello Cady!”.   she is my #1 faithful blog-reader).  😉

pretty parfait

just an easy tasty treat i thought i would share with you. quite easy to make and just use whatever you have on hand.

this particular one, i made, layering:

  • light & fit dannon vanilla yogurt
  • toasted wheat germ, (for a nutty taste, without the nuts)
  • fresh pineapple chunks
  • fresh strawberry
  • a sprinkle of mini-chocolate chips

that’s all!  very tasty for a warm spring afternoon.  enjoy!!

a bump in the road {life @ 13} scrapped

i’m pretty happy with how this layout turned out.  i just love this paper and am happy to finally have used it.
the scrabble letters have been in my sticker album for a long time.  finally using them.    love how the title works with the road theme of the paper.
i don’t know why, but i love this little skull rub-on.  it’s from a set of rub-ons that are the same theme as the paper.
i’ve had these numbers so long, i don’t even remember where they’re from….i like how they add more dimension to the layout.  of course i enjoy using my favorite { }
you can see here that i cut out pieces of the paper and attached some of them with foam dots, to add dimension.  cutting out tiny paper items and using them for embellishments, is something that i’ve been reading about over on christine middlecamp’s blog.  she creates amazing layouts.  very detailed.  alot of handcrafted embellishments that make her layouts ‘pop’.
…just another view…..happy scrappin!

a bump in the road {life @ 13}

well.  i knew it would happen.

i’m not as much fun as i used to be…(my son now realizes that)…

he prefers to stay home.  he begs to stay home.

i knew it would happen.  suddenly running errands “with mom” isn’t quite what it used to be.  i am sure that this little bump in the road is typical for a 13 year old.  i’m sure i was exactly like that when i was his age.

just now, i know what it feels like from the other side,  as a mom.
