from disaster to dessert

we celebrated my dad’s birthday yesterday.

my mom made his favorite cake….chocolate with cherry pie filling between the 2 layers of cake.

we girls, (mom, sister & myself), were left to the decorating.  YIKES!

first, the icing tips didn’t fit on the tube.

so then, we tried the ‘icing in ziploc bag with tip sticking out the corner’… TWICE, the seam of the bag ripped and icing started to ooze out of the side.

but my sister wouldn’t give up!  she somehow held the tip against the tube opening and somehow, she was able to squeeze out the icing….attempting to make the shape of a football.  (dad loves the Browns)

anyways, despite the fact that decorating the cake was a disaster, by the time we cut the cake and piled it on our plates with homemade icecream, chocolate toppings and M&M’s… was delicious!

sometimes the foods that LOOK the worst, taste the BEST!

not ashamed

my dad’s birthday is today!

as part of his gift, i made this for him to hang in his home office.

  • “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ; for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” Romans 1:16

that is his favorite verse, and the colors are the same as his office.

looking forward to celebrating with him tomorrow during the Steelers vs. Browns game.  he loves the Browns and we love the Steelers.

…but i’m no june cleaver…

“i love my family…but i’m no june cleaver”

this is a continuation of my “altered vera bradley catalog” that i started a month or so ago.  i had fun turning it into an art journal/journal about me project.  i wanted to try different scrapping techniques….and yet journal about things like my faith, my feelings, my opinions.

this double page layout is about the fact that yes, i love my family….yes, i enjoy cooking dinner, but yet….i’m no june cleaver.  i occasionally make poor priority choices, such as, maybe, blogging, when i should be cooking dinner.  LOL.

this next double layout is about the fact that people may say i’m an old fashion girl.

i modge-podged some pictures of old shows/movies that i love.

the journaling reads:

“I enjoy black & white movies and TV shows, probably because I prefer not to hear or see excessive swearing, violence or sex.  I appreciate manners and am shocked when people are rude.  I enjoy watching shows from times when the innocence of children were protected and marriage vows were treasured.  I guess that makes me an old-fashioned girl.”

now, don’t get me wrong.  i don’t live in a bubble.  i’m not a prude.  i just think that on some things, it would be nice if we could take a step back in time…

{love The Office}

enjoyed a very relaxing saturday yesterday.  beautiful weather, enjoyed a good book, a visit to the ice cream parlor before they close for the season, and late last night, a little scrapping!!

my hubby & i love The Office.  we watch the dvd’s practically every night.  during the season, we have a standing date night to watch The Office together.

last night, i went into my scraproom, enjoying some tunes on my ipod and suddenly had an idea to scrap!

i grabbed this calendar and put together a page within a few minutes.

nothing elaborate, just a simple page that was a lot of fun to throw together!

girls’ getaway mini albums

whew!  i’ve been working on these 2 mini albums for the last 24 hours.

they are purse-shaped chipboard albums.  i filled them with pictures from our girls’ getaway overnighter.  my mom, sister & i went to columbus a few weekends ago….of course i was snapping pictures….so, i made these gift albums for them.

i had a lot of fun putting these together.  the albums, diecut background papers, coordinating chipboard embellishments & journaling tags were each in the $1 bin at michaels.  i think i even got them for less than a buck per pack.

i love the 50’s pin-up girl flair…too cute.

i layered lots of flowers & ribbon…

used some of my favorite stamps…buttons, ribbon, label-maker…

these are just a few pictures from the albums.

of course, i had to add some starbucks scrappy goodness!

my second 5k

walked in my second 5k today.  whatta great feeling of accomplishment!

shaved over 3 minutes off of my first one a month ago….not bad.

(above: on the way to the 5k…looking a bit tired…so early for a saturday)

(below: heading towards the finish line with my sis)

afterwards, my hubby took me to starbucks for my favorite drink!  ; )

{life is good}

lovely weekend

well, i hope your weekend was a lovely one!  i had a lovely weekend!!!

first of all,

i scrapped these little lovelies for the “going green ATC swap” over on….(love that site)

my inspiration was a new t-shirt that i have.

they say “going green? love the earth. love the creator.”

also this weekend, our nephew was married!!!

it was a beautiful wedding.  beautiful dresses.  beautiful weather!

below is a picture of me & my hunky husband.

after the reception some of us snapped some family pix outside.

enjoy your monday!

freak’n friday

i finished up my first ATCs yesterday….for a swap over on

they are a lot of fun to make.

i can’t wait to see what others have done with this theme!

a few days ago, my son turned 15!

it’s hard to believe.  where has time gone?

(today we went bowling with family….had a great time.)

a few nights ago, ON his bday, we enjoyed some s’mores around our fire-pit.

ohhhhhhh the days of summer…..

life is good.

my first 5k

yahoooo!  i hope you enjoyed your 4th of July weekend.  we did.

i know it’s been a while since i’veposted anything.  blogging is always on my mind, but when i actually sit down with my laptop, the time seems to slip away as i spend time online….  oops!

saturday, i started my day by participating in my first 5k!!!!!!

….and it was surprisingly much easier than i ever expected!

my parents and sister participated also….and thankfully my hubby & son came to cheer me on (& take pictures)!

this is my parents as they headed for the finish line.

they chose to run/walk it…my mom came in 3rd in her age category!  way to go mom!  (dad did great too, but i forget how he placed….and the website hasn’t posted the race results yet.)  yea-dad!!

below is a pic of my sister & i as we headed for the finish line. i didn’t know where kevin & nick would be waiting for us…i knew they would be somewhere near the finish line so that they could take pictures.  my son has teased me all week about walking in the 5k….(i’m not so sure he thought i could do it!)….anyways, as we rounded the corner i could see them up on a small hill with the crowd.  my son broke into a huge smile when he saw us….i think he was relieved that i had made it….lol….and kev was snapping pictures….i tried not to look at them because i am sure i looked like a nut with a huge grin on my face, but it was a great feeling!

this was something i wanted to do….kind of like when i signed up to take spinning classes this past winter.

not necessarily because i needed to take the class, but because i needed to PROVE to myself that i could do it.  despite the fact that i will be turning 40 in seven months….

i am not a runner.  never have been.  i’m awkward and feel self-conscious just walking, let alone running!  my sister feels the same way….this was her first 5k also….we did really well!!!

and i was really pleased with how well i felt doing it.

i’vebeen walking on the treadmill, almost daily, for about 1 1/2years…so i guess it paid off….walking the 5k with my sister was a lot of fun!!!

i’m even thinking about doing another one soooon!

we also had a cook-out and enjoyed some delicious food & time with family.   also discovered that rock band is great fun for ALL of the family!  this is my mom!!!!

we all took turns playing and singing.

it was a great time for everyone.

…i hope you had a great long weekend too….

scrapsinbloom layout

i’ve been scrapping a little here & there.

…between my son’s summer gym schedule, running errands, usual housework and enjoying our pool….

i have been wanting to scrap my blog for a while.  i was inspired by one of my scrapbooking magazines that showed a few blog-themed layouts.  i love how this turned out!  loooove using THICKERS, printed out my flair, hand-cut some clouds from scrap paper…used lots of 3D foam to make some of the embellishments ‘pop’…love the wood-grain brown paper for the background, (although it’s a little hard to see in the pictures).

my son does not like to have his pictures posted…so i block his face…lol

(it’s a good thing my mom didn’t have a “blog” when i was young.)

our pool has been nothing but trouble this summer.  my wonderful husband has worked like crazy to get the parts that we needed and get it up and running.  he knows how much i love my pool.  thanks, honey  ; )

thanks for looking!
