whisper a prayer

  • “Let ___________’s teachers and coaches never become weary in doing good, but let them know that at the proper time they will reap a harvest if they do not give up.  Likewise, don’t let ____________ grow weary as she (he) prays for her (his) teachers.”  Amen   (Galatians 6:9)
  • “Cause __________ to be wise in the way he (she) acts towards his (her) teachers, making the most of every opportunity.  Let his (her) conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that he (she) will know how to respectfully and graciously answer his (her) teachers’ questions.”  Amen  (Colossians 4:5-6)
  • “You know our needs even before we ask you, Lord, and you promise to work in all things for the good of those who love you.  Handpick each one of ___________’s teachers, and surround her (him) with classmates of your choosing.”  Amen (Matthew 6:8; Romans 8:28)

book-blog-6.jpgbook-blog-5.jpgbook-blog-4.jpgbook-blog-3.jpgbook-blog-2.jpgmeags-book-blog.jpgok. wow!  late night hours bring creativity!

it’s been a crazy week.

working on the big garage sale at church, (what feels like non-stop).  needless to say, my time spent on housework has been little to none, not to mention numerous other projects that i should be doing, but haven’t even begun.

BUT, i finally got to sit down and work on doing some ‘altered notebooks’.  somehow a little creative inspiration sprung through my veins.  (maybe it was the fact that i was alone….everyone else was in bed…..maybe it was the fact that i had free reign of the tv & discovered that two of my favorite shows were on from 11:30-1:00.  Seinfeld & The King of Queens.)  whatever is was, it just worked.  you know that feeling when you are working on a scrapbook layout and somehow, it just works??  the embellishments work, the color schemes match….it just worked! and that was a good thing!!

i really would like to try to make some to list on Etsy, but this first one was a gift for someone.  i am so pleased with how it turned out, i thought i would add it my blog.  i hope you like it!  let me know what you think!  be kind, it’s my first!

whisper a prayer

  • “I pray that _________would show proper respect to everyone.  Let him (her) love his (her) brothers and sisters in Christ, fear you, and honor those in authority over him (her).”  Amen (1 Peter 2:17)
  • “Cause _________ to obey his (her) teachers and coaches and submit to their authority.  Let him (her) know that these people keep watch over him (her) and that you will hold them accountable for the job they do.  Show ________ that when he (she) obeys his (her) teachers and coaches and makes their work a joy instead of a burden, the end result will be tho his (her) advantage.”  Amen  (Hebrews 13:17)

a day in the life

ok. so i am totally into this blog thing.  i find myself searching and reading, searching and reading.  i am trying to compose a list of my favorites, so that i can add them to my blog-list.

as i sit here searching, i am realizing that i basically have nothing of interest to blog about today…but, because i find it totally disheartening to go to a blog that isn’t current and up-to-date, i have decided to simply blog my about my incredibly busy day today.  so, bare with me…

currently it’s almost tomorrow…

husband, asleep beside me…(bless his heart, he has to get up and go to work tomorrow)

son, on his laptop in his bedroom playing games and enjoying some late-night fun, before summer ends.

i’m watching a dvd of “The Office”, which is what we do every night as we go to bed….often falling asleep while the tv is still on, almost like a lullaby.  (you will always find either a dvd of “The Office”, or a dvd of “Seinfeld”, in our bedroom dvd player….we currently own all available seasons of both shows.  pathetic, i know.)  my hubby & i are constantly quoting either show throughout our daily routines…inside jokes that only we appreciate.

started my day with normal mom things…emptying the dishwasher, loads of laundry, picking up the house…yadda yadda yadda (to quote “Seinfeld”)…

then off we go, to the church.  currently, i am overseeing a 3-church garage sale.  eeks.  what was i thinking???  i have never seen so much stuff.  we, (a few volunteers, and my dear family–son, husband, parents, sister and in-laws) have spent countless hours unboxing and sorting through stuff.  cleaning it, organizing it etc. etc.  i think that the stuff has been multiplying in the drop-off location.  for every box i have unpacked, i am pretty sure 3 boxes then appeared in it’s place.

so, we spent the most of the day at the church, only to swing through McDonald’s on the way home for Nick & my nephew,  grab a quick supper….drove through Kewpee for my favorite 1/2 cappuccino 1/2 black coffee….and a burger…i never did have lunch, so of course by this point, i feel a bad headache coming on….either from lack of nutrition or lack of caffeine.

home for approximately 25 minutes, which was barely enough time to take the dog out, read the paper and head back out the door.

men’s softball tournaments for our church league, which my hubby is the coach of.  whew. should have been a double-header, the first team we versed didn’t have enough guys show up–forfeit–lucky us.  second game, we kicked butt!  have to admit, quite proud of hubby. : )

oh, forgot to mention.  on way to softball game, drove through Happy Dayz to get hubby a quick burger to eat before the game…..waited in line fooorever….almost late to game.

come home, more housewife stuff.

45 minutes working out to exercise video. (wow! i exercised!  i always dread it, but feel so good afterwards!)

3 more loads of laundry.

lay in bed, read blogs.

whew.  may not sound like much to anyone else, but i have that good day’s end feeling when you know that you have accomplished all sorts of things.  (even though the to-do list grows for tomorrow.)

this day reminds me of many blessings:

  • thankful to have both of our parents live in our hometown, close family
  • thankful that my husband has been blessed with a good job that allows me to be a stay-at-home mom, so that i can get involved in major projects at church
  • thankful for good health that allows me to fulfill my day-to-day routine
  • thankful for an understanding hubby that forgives me when i dive into major projects and become totally absorbed in them

scrap attack

ok, so you may be thinking that i am talking about scrapbooking….well, i’m not.  Scrappy, is mscrappy-blog.jpgy son’s pet hamster.  occasionally, i call him ‘scrap-attack’.  (Nick named him that because after we purchased him, all the way home, he made a scrapping noise as he tried to escape his cardboard home.)  now, as cute as he may look in the pictures, it’s kind of a love/hate relationship we have going.  i am sure you moms know what i am talking about.  any cute new pet that comes into the house, who ends up reallytaking care of them????  we do.  so, yes, scrappy is cute.  especially when i go into the room at night and he scampers to the top of his house and stands on his hind-feet, waiting………  waiting foscrappy-blog-21.jpgr what?  Cheerios.  more spescrappy-blog-31.jpgcifically, strawberry yogurt Cheerios.  he loves them!  i have to admit, i enjoy giving him those treats.  he actually balances himself, (or maybe it’s so that i don’t get away), by grabbing hold of my finger with one of his hands, while he takes the Cheerio with the other.

too cute, huh?  wanna run out and buy one for your household?  you may want to take this into consideration:

  • hamsters are nocturnal.  (you may think that you won’t hear them, but we had to move scrappy into an empty room, –well, technically our scrapbooking/exercise room–and even with the door shut, we can STILL hear him doing things.)
  • they eat what you don’t want them to eat–for example, those cute little plastic cages–he ate through one, so we had to buy a 10 gallon tank.  we had tried the 5 gallon tank at the beginning, but he would climb on top of his house and try to eat the metal screen at the top, which totally freaked us all out.
  • they don’t eat what you do want them too.  apparently they are supposed to enjoy chewing on wood.  not scrappy.  he likes plastic.  so, we purchased a wood home for him to feast on and he barely nibbled.
  • their cute cages need cleaned, at least every 4 days.  (enough said)
  • occasionally they take a bite of your finger.

well, i can’t believe i have blogged about our hamster, but i thought that the truth should be out there!  if i had only known, i’m not so sure we would have purchased him!!  (right.  Nick knows i’m a sucker.)

whisper a prayer

  • “I pray that ___________’s male teachers and coaches would be men of temperance, dignity, and wisdom, with lives marked by faith, love, and endurance.  I pray that the women in ___________’s life would be models of goodness, self-control, reverence, and purity.  In everything, let these men and women set an example for _________ by doing what is good.”  Amen (Titus 2:2-7)
  • “Remind _________ to pray for his (her) teachers and coaches and give thanks for the role they play in his (her) life.”  Amen (I Timothy 2:1-2)

we’ve hit a little speed bump

hand-blog.jpgin the midst of the activity, Monday night, we hit a little speed bump.

while working at the church, (setting up for a major church garage sale), my son had a stack of tables fall on his hand….leaving a cut across one finger, a gash on another and really swollen knuckles.  needless to say, we headed to the local urgent care.  just as we thought, he needed stitches.  i won’t go into all of the gory details, but let’s just say that he was quite brave.

on the way to the urgent care, i realized that when it comes to little speed bumps, our family had been blessed with having them few & far between.  so often, in our hurried lives, we fail to realize that we have been coasting along, taking for granted what the day holds for us.  planning our days, our weeks, our months.  sometimes without a second thought that God may have a different idea of what He plans to accomplish through us.

  • “Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”  Psalm 90:12
  • “So, do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”  Isaiah 41:10
  • “Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.”  Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow.  What is your life?  You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.  Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”  As it is, you boast and brag.  All such boasting is evil.  Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn’t do it, sins.”  I Peter 4:13-17hand-blog-2.jpg

Nick isn’t in much pain,  it’s been more of an inconvenience to him than anything.  little things like brushing his teeth are next to impossible at this point, without mom’s help.  i think that even Nick now realizes how blessed he is to be in good health and that this is just a minor thing compared to the struggles that many kids his age face daily.

i’m thankful that God didn’t speak to me through a major set-back.  that He chose to use the hand of a child to reach down & remind me of what is important and i thank Him for granting me peace in the midst of my speed bump.
