a little bit of this & that

went to a birthday party for my sister this evening….had a great time.  while we enjoyed the beautiful sunset, i messed around with some silly self-portraits.  (sadly, i never even knew that my phone camera took black & white photos.  my 14 year old had to show me.)  i practically look cross-eyed in the second one.
i also had a few quick minutes to scrap today.  made a bday card to for my sister.  i used my new stamps from papertrey ink…..

so this is all i have to offer for my Sunday Scrappin

  • my ta-da’s (the hooty bday card)
  • my to-do’s (3 cards and a few family layouts)
  • last week’s challenge: use something fruity….haven’t tried that yet

happy 14th nick!

this is my absolute favorite picture of nick.   such a cutie pie.   my baby is 14 today.  he is developing into quite the young man.  happy birthday, nick!  we love you!!  God has blessed our family with you & we are thankful for your life.

  • Dear God,  “Let Nick dwell in the shelter of the Most High and rest in the shadow of the Almighty.  Be his refuge, his fortress, his covering, his shield. Do not let him fear the terror of the night, nor any type of plague or sickness.  Do not let any harm or disaster come near Nick.  Command your angels to guard him in all his ways and keep him from hurting himself.  When he calls on you, answer him.  Be with hiim in trouble; deliver him and honor him.  Satisfy Nick with long life and show him your salvation.”  Amen    (Psalm 91)

yesterday, we had a really nice day.  we travelled to toledo for a birthday party.  my nephew and son were born only hours apart.  they both are celebrating their 14th birthday this week, so we went to celebrate with family.  the day was beautiful.  perfect weather.  we had a really nice time.  (even squeezed in a trip to starbucks on the way home.)

last night, while my hubby & i relaxed and watched “Vantage Point”, i enjoyed some scrappy time!  (by the way–i loved vantage point.  i knew i would.)

i just LOVE papertrey ink.  i have posted about them many times.  i have never been disappointed.  their products are amazing, the quality is fantastic.  even the care that they take in shipping is great.

these cards were made using last month’s release:  Birds of a Feather

i love using the Marvy Punches.  they add great detail, very easily.  (you can buy these at papertrey ink also.)
this stamp even has a wing that can be stamped separately, to add more detail.
well, that sums up my day yesterday.  i hope you had a great weekend & found time for yourself….maybe you scrapped too!  if so, leave a comment!

refrigerator artwork

when they’re little, we hang our children’s artwork on the fridge.

when they’re older, we post them on our blog.

nick made this for me today, using

he even put my blog name on it.

thanks, nick!  love it!!!!

fruity tuity treat

hello.   i hope everyone is enjoying their 4th of July weekend!  ours has been totally enjoyable and relaxing!!!!

a little visiting, eating, bike-riding, sunning, floating, reading, blog-surfing, and much of nothing!   fantastic!

i thought i would share an easy fruity treat, that looks good too!

Fruit Shish kabobs

  • i simply bought this “tub” or “bucket” at Meijer…on sale for $1.50…in the special summer plastic-ware section
  • bought fresh fruit: watermelon, grapes, pineapple–(my favorite), blueberries & strawberries
  • cut the watermelon into small slices and placed them into the bottom of the tub
  • cut asst. fruit into bite-size chunks
  • placed cut fruit on wood kabob sticks
  • stand the sticks up in bucket, sticking the end of the sticks in the watermelon for support and height

that’s it!  just a reminder of an easy healthy snack or side-dish.  in this bucket, it makes for an easy picnic or bbq treat!  (you could easily put ice in the bottom instead of watermelon.)   served with yogurt dip is tasty also!

enjoy the remainder of your weekend!

apple green {i want that one!}

whew.  whatta week!  so happy it’s friday.our coffee maker is breaking…i love green…maybe i’ll get this one.

have been working non-stop on a scrapbook gift.  only 2 more layouts to go.  maybe i will post some of it this weekend.

chewy is much better.  conjunctivitis in both eyes.  got some eye medication for him…he’s looking better already….he was looking quite pitiful….

hubby has a softball tournament all day tomorrow.  hopefully the rain will hold off.  sun is currently shining.  maybe we’ll even make it into the sun today!

can’t believe it’s almost july.  this summer has flown (or floated) by.  feeling very blessed that i can be a stay-at-home mom and enjoy the summer days with nick.

what about you?  what blessing has God made you aware of recently?

lights out!

goofy things to do when the power is out for 5 hours:

  • toss football with dad, dashing through ankle-deep puddles
  • wash cars
  • eat yummy snacks–calories consumed in the dark don’t count, right?
  • listen to music on your laptop and make up new dance moves
  • attempt to read a good book as light creeps through the windows
  • resort to hand-held electronics for games (pathetic, huh?  how did laura ingalls fill her time?)

well, as you can tell, our power went out shortly after supper and didn’t return until after midnight.

poor chewy has some kind of odd eye infection…keeps squinting at us and woke up this morning with eye goop (sorry for the vision that creates).  vet apt later today.

well, the sun is shining, lots to do today!  have a great thursday!

cedar point trip: part 3: saving the best for last

(ok. still dealing with uploading photo problems….)  part 3 of CP pix.  last post about CP.  won’t bore you much longer.

it made my day.  lousy, expensive, amusement park food, but ahhh there was starbucks.

totally surprised!  not even listed on their website or there map…..(?@?!?@ why do they not list it!?!?  are they crazy?)

a caramel macchiato in the morning and another one in the evening!  yum!  (in fact it was the main source of my nutrition for the day.) ha

ONLY bad part, they didn’t have frappuccinos, (sorry hubby), and the employees WERE MEAN!  not just rude.  not just a bad moment.  MEAN.  continually.  to everyone, including each other.

hope your weekend went well.

rained most of the afternoon/evening during our pool party, but it was still a good time visiting with family….splurging on yummy food, watching adults play Wii, and little ones try to race on Burnout Paradise.  some managed to swim before the rain set in…..and hubby grilled delicious chicken before the storms.

good weekend?  leave a comment!

cedar point trip: part 2

ok.  here are just 2 more of the CP pix. this is the Raptor!  eeks.this was nick’s first ever roller coaster ride.

as a mom standing below, (he rode with an older cousin & friends), it was very hard to watch.

i’m not sure who was more nervous & nauseous, him?  or me?

this is a pic of nick & i on the ride……  my hubby actually snapped a picture as we rode by.

well, that’s it for today.  busy preparing for a pool party that we are having at our house tomorrow.

maybe i will post more of the CP pix tomorrow.

enjoy your weekend!!!
