2010 {stretch} (& day 35)

2010  {stretch}

What will my “word for 2010″ be?  (one little word–inspired by ali edwards)

In 2008, I began my new lifestyle of counting calories, working out, and getting healthy & strong.

So, for 2009, I wanted to “refocus & renew”.  Not on my physical, but my spiritual.

As I began to think about my word for 2010…I finally decided upon “stretch”.

I tried to think of a word that sums up how I want to live in 2010.  (This goes along with my “40 till 40″, not as lessons learned, but learning.)

How does the word stretch apply?

  • I need to stretch out of my comfort zones.
  • I need to stretch beyond my limitations & fears of failing.
  • I need to stretch my creativity and push myself harder.
  • I need to stretch beyond thinking of myself, but to thinking of others.
  • I need to stretch out of my comfortable relationship with Christ and challenge myself to dig deeper.
  • I need to stretch my mind and learn new things.
  • I need to, literally, stretch my budget and push myself to do the projects that I once had a vision & ideas for, (using the scrap stash I already have).
  • I need to stretch my state of mind, knowing that I am entering new phases in my life….I am turning 40…celebrating 18 years of marriage to my best friend/hubby….my son is going to be driving this year, no longer the ‘little guy’ he once was, but becoming a young gentleman.

What’s your ‘word’ for 2010?

feel like hiding?

chew-peekaboo
ever feel like hiding?

like giving up?

like there’s no hope for your situation?

remember that God is with you.

Psalm 46:1-11

1  God is our refuge and strength,
        an ever-present help in trouble.

2  Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
        and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,

3  Though its waters roar and foam
        and the mountains quake with their surging.
        Selah

4  There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
        the holy place where the Most High dwells.

5  God is within her, she will not fall;
        God will help her at break of day.

6  Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
        he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

7  The LORD Almighty is with us;
        the God of Jacob is our fortress.
        Selah

8  Come and see the works of the LORD,
        the desolations he has brought on the earth.

9  He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth;
        he breaks the bow and shatters the spear,
        he burns the shields with fire.

10  “Be still, and know that I am God;
        I will be exalted among the nations,
        I will be exalted in the earth.”

11  The LORD Almighty is with us;
        the God of Jacob is our fortress.
        Selah

{whisper a prayer} for your teen

hands
Dear God,

  • “Remove any trace of a veil from _________’s eyes.  Take the blinders off of his/her mind–wherever he/she is prone to unbelief–so that he/she might understand the gospel and see the light of your glory.”  Amen  (2 Corin. 4:3-6)
  • “Bring my teenager back to the faith that he/she knew as a child.  Let our mouths be filled with laughter, and our tongues with songs of joy.  Let our friends and neighbors know that you have done great things for our family.”  Amen    (Psalm 126:1-2)
  • “Help our family to understand what it means to call the Sabbath a delight and to make it an honorable day.  Show us how to find our joy in you rather than in doing whatever we please.”  Amen   (Isaiah 58:13-14)

{my 2009 prayer journal}

have you seen this? if  you are a paper-junkie, like me,

you will loooooove these yummy journals.

they are from ecojot, 100% recycled paper.

i received one for Christmas and i have been saving it. when i have a big, fat, blank, new notebook, you can’t just use it for any willy-nilly thing.

i wait until i can use it for something ‘good’.  something other than just ‘paper’.

i finally realized the perfect solution. {my 2009 prayer journal}

one of my favorite memories is the summer that nick & kevin got their tonsils out on the same day and the following month of recuperating.

not because of what they went through, but because at the time, i was faithful in my daily devotions and prayer time.

i kept a prayer journal for quite a while, (and have numerous ones from different times), but this particular prayer journal, from that period of time, is the most dear to me.  i wrote specific prayers in it, pouring out my requests to God.  then, as my prayers were answered, (not always what i asked for, but with God’s will), i would record God’s answers to my prayers.

when you can look back over a period of time and see how amazing God is,

how He loves us and is always there for us,

and He not only hears our prayers,

but answers them…..it is an amazing feeling!!

i long to feel that close to God again.

to keep track of answered prayers.

to be able to see specifically how God has worked in my life…day after day…

i am excited!

i look forward to 2009 and walking with God, spending time daily with Him.

a year of refocus & renew.

i challenge YOU to do the same!

{r & r} sunday scrappin’

ok.  so, as mentioned before in a couple different posts,this year, i am “refocusing and renewing” my relationship with Christ this year.

to encourage this process,

i am participating in a few different scripture challenges.

(of course, it also qualifies for my sunday scrappin)

the above layout is my first for the Scripture Challenge at faithsisters.com

the words for this week were “faith & kindness”.

the verses that i chose:  Psalm 145:17 & James 2:26

i did some cloud layering with the owls.  love the owls!!

pleated some ribbon at the bottom.

i am also participating in the His Holy Name Challenge at faithsisters.com this week’s name was “holy”.

i chose: Revelation 4:8b & Isaiah 6:3b

loved using the thicker stickers for holy.  loooove those.

another challenge, over at LPMblog for scripture memorization. the verse i chose to memorize was: Psalm 51:10.

i kept this memory verse layout, small, like baseball card size.

easy to attach to a ring and keep with me, to refresh my memory when learning each verse.

i didn’t want to use too many embellishments.  wanted to keep it more flat, so that it could easily be portable. plus, i want the scripture to be the key point, without embellishments distracting from it.

well, that is how i spent my sunday afternoon.

of course now, i am watching Big Ben with my hubby….go Steelers!!!

a pure heart

well, as posted here, i am trying to refocus my attention on my relationship with Christ this year. the verse that i have chosen for this month, (for the LPM scripture memorization challenge) is:

  • ” Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”  Psalm 51:10

i am starting a new devotional, Take A Closer Look For Women and i really enjoy books that are based on praying the scriptures….so i found a new one Praying the Scriptures for Your Teenagers

refocus & renew

i’ve been thinking a lot about something that ali edwards mentioned in her blog.

choosing a word for 2009.

a word that sums up what you want for yourself this coming year.

i thought this would be easy.  i thought a word would just jump out at me.

but it didn’t.  i’ve been thinking about it…looking up words…scriptures etc….

i finally narrowed it down to two.

refocus & renew

2008 was a year that i really focused on getting healthy.  losing weight.  exercising.  making healthy eating choices.

but one thing that always got pushed to the bottom of my to-do list, was my quiet time wtih God.

in 2009, i would like to refocus my energy and renewing my relationship with Christ.

daily making the choice to create time to spend alone with him.

of course these words can also be applied to other areas of my life also, but i really want my main focus to be on Him.  knowing that, when we put our eyes on Christ, everything else should fall into place.

  • Psalm 51:10  “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”
  • Romans 12:2  “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
  • Isaiah 40:31  “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

in order to encourage this change, i have found a few challenges that i am going to do.

His Holy Name Challenge 2009

Scripture Challenge 2009 (these 2 are done through faithsisters.com}

LPM Scripture Memory Challenge 2009  (this is livingproofministries, which is beth moore, a fantastic Bible-study leader)

think about it.

it’s more than just a resolution.

what will be your focul point this year??
